Tsunami!
“Rescue
those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”
--Proverbs
24:11
In
December 2004 the tsunami disaster struck Southeast Asia. Everyone
saw the tragedy from a different point of view, but the most important
question is, how did God see it? When the 30-foot waves swept over 220,000
people out to sea, what did God see? I believe God saw at least three
things.
First and
foremost, God saw 220,000 souls perishing, souls made in His image, most of
whom probably weren’t saved.
The second
thing He saw was us, His children. He watched to see our reaction to this
disaster. Did we grieve over the dying facing an eternity in hell or did we
just write our check for $20.00 toward a relief fund and put it out of our
minds? Did it spur us on to tell everyone we know about the Good News, or
was it just another television news story?
The third
thing I believe He saw were the billions of others still alive who have
never heard the saving message of Jesus Christ.
Meditate
on the fate of those that are bound for hell. Hear the screams and cries of
the tsunami victims. Allow God to use the memory of this tragedy to spur you
on to be a bold witness for Him.
