Intentional Evangelism
“I am going to share
Christ.”
Adopt a mind-set that
says, “I’m going to be continually on the alert for someone with whom I
might share the Gospel.” Being a faithful witness and seeking to introduce
others to Jesus Christ involves:
A frame of mind—that
you are going to share Christ every time the Lord give you an opportunity.
A focused
concentration—that you continually will be on the alert for someone with
whom you might converse about the Lord Jesus.
A purpose—that
all of your words and deeds will be aimed at leading a person to a personal
relationship with the Lord.
Catching fish doesn’t
happen by accident. Fish don’t just leap out of a pond or lake and land on
your doorstep 15 miles away. To catch fish you must decide that you are
going fishing. A fisherman sets his or her mind and heart toward that
activity and puts himself into position to catch fish.
Sharing your life in
Christ is a choice of your will. It’s intending
to win others to Him. It’s setting your face and your life toward that
activity. It’s making a total commitment to Christ and His kingdom purposes.
It’s deciding to become a faithful witness.
All the people I know
who have been used of God in personal evangelism have expected to discover
interested people. In any group of people or in conversation with any
particular individual they ask, “Lord is this one in whom you are working?”
Then as the Spirit leads, they proceed to test the waters.
You set your heart,
and your will, toward winning others to Christ. And when you do, the Lord
will direct your specific steps, setting up individual encounters for you
and putting people into your path whose hearts are prepared to accept the
message you have to give.
When you take that
out-of-town business trip, expect to come home and tell your family about
those ministry encounters and the “fish” you caught. When you go into a
store, expect to share Christ with someone. When you eat at a restaurant,
expect to open a conversation with the waitress or waiter about the Lord.
If, indeed, you have
been praying in faith that God would use you to win others to Him, why
wouldn’t the Lord cause people to gravitate your way? Isn’t He able to cause
them…
...to take a different
route home so their path will intersect with yours?
...to stop to pick up
a loaf of bread in the same store you’ve stopped at for a gallon of milk?
...to be called in to
work to do a double shift just so they’ll be on your same shift?
...to be the clerk who
responds to you in a store that’s filled with dozens of clerks.
...to come to the
airport and get you as a passenger, rather than any of a thousand other
travelers?
We need to be doers of
the Word of God (James 1). We are deceiving ourselves if we don’t do the
Word. Some people are just dreamers. Like a boy in high school that dreams
about having a date, but doesn’t do anything about it. You have to do more
than dream. You have to put your “want to” into action.
Evangelism is an
attitude, a mind-set. When we wake up in the morning, we need to say to God,
"I'm Yours today to use in whatever way possible." When we make ourselves
available to God, He will bring people to us.
Make a quality
decision from which there is no turning back, I am going to witness for
Christ.”
