Evangelizing the Cultist
Don’t let Donnie and Marie fool you. Don’t let the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
fool you. The Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints (better
known as the Mormons) are a cult—one of many cults that in the world. There
are so many cults because the devil is a great liar—the father of lies.
Cults are religion. Religion is dead. Jesus is Life. The Bible blasts
religion. Jesus ripped into religion. Paul the apostle ripped into
religion. Religion will damn more souls to Hell than probably anything
else.
The Word of God warns us that there will be false teachers out there.
People don’t go into a cult or religion movement by reading the Bible alone,
because if they knew the Truth, they wouldn’t be fooled. They enlist in
cults with some help from false teachers.
Cult members need witnessing to, just like anyone else, but you are really
going to have to prepare yourself for the battles. You are going to have to
do some research.
There are three Christian truths that cults notoriously distort because
they all claim they have a special revelation from God”
1. The deity of Jesus Christ
2. Salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ
3. The truth of God’s Word
Looking at these three truths you can quickly assess if a person is in a
cult.
The deity of Christ
There is a simple way to see if someone has the true Jesus or not. By true
Jesus, I mean the one of the Bible, not the one of Mormonism who is the
brother of the devil, nor the Jehovah Witnesses Jesus who is Michael the
Archangel, and certainly not the one of the New Age Movement who is simply a
man in tune with divine consciousness:
a. The Jesus of the Bible is prayed to
b. The Jesus of the Bible is worshipped
c. The Jesus of the Bible is called God
If you are a Christian then you will be able to pray to Jesus, worship
Jesus equally with the Father and call Jesus your Lord and God.
Jesus alone offers us salvation and enables us to live godly lives. He
makes what cults have to offer unnecessary.
Salvation by grace
All cults either replace the finished work of Jesus on the cross or add to
it. They have their own works of righteousness. They maintain that they
must prove themselves worthy and that they must try their best to please
God and prove to Him that they are sincere, have worked hard, and are worthy
of Him. This is absolutely wrong. The Bible say that we are saved by grace
not by works. If there was anything we could do to merit forgiveness of
our sins, then Jesus died needlessly.
The Truth of God’s Word
Another common denominator among cults is their methods for twisting
Scripture. “The Bible is OK,” most cults say, “it’s just not enough. You
need this extra book of scriptures or the correct interpretation of the
Bible. Then you will have sufficient truth.” Cults try to convince people
that they cannot have access to these new truths through any other group but
their own.
One approach is to give respect to the Bible but teach that is cannot be
fully trusted. They teach that books must have been lost or texts altered.
Then they offer other books (added r4evalations) as scriptures. The Mormon
Church are examples of this.
Another approach is to hold the Bible as the authority but actually direct
the student’s attention primarily to the doctrinal books of leaders. These
books usually contain some accurate doctrine, but are lace with leader’s
heresy. Bible verses are laced with leaders heresy. Bible verses are
sprinkled liberally in the books to make it appear that the student is
studying the Bible. The result is that the Bible is really only being used
as a reference book. This approach is typical of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Another method is to actually rewrite the Bible making changes in the text
to fit the group’s theology. This is done subtly in the New World
Translation by the Witnesses and by the New Age Movement in “A Course in
Miracles.”
Beware of cults using terminology of the Bible. Listen carefully to their
definitions.

Christadelphianism, Unity, Way International, Theosophy, Unitarianism, The
Twelve Tribes, New Age Movement, Bahai, Scieontology, etc.
How
to Witness to Someone in a False Religion:
1. Don’t look at cult members as inconveniences, but as a mission field.
They need witnessing to just like everyone else. They desperately need to
be free from the bondage of religion, which brings death. Jesus brings
life.
2. One of the best preparations for witnessing to cults is to know the
Word of God—know what you believe, why you believe it, and where it is
found. The best antidote for a lie is always the truth.
3. Don’t try to witness to a cult member unless you are firmly grounded in
the Word of God and your faith. They are thoroughly prepared, and you need
to be also before you attempt to witness to them.
4. Don’t treat a cult member as the enemy. Yes, they are being used of
the enemy, but they are not the enemy—Satan is. The cultist is not
consciously doing wrong. He is a victim, who has been training other
victims, all the while thinking he is doing God’s will.
5. Familiarize yourself with their doctrinal errors. You need to be well
versed in their doctrines as well as your own.
6. Research their worldview and terminology.
7. Treat them as you would anyone else you witness to; with love and
respect.
The cults are killing innocent people. Satan wants our eyes on anybody and
anything except for Jesus. Don’t let the devil get away with murder.
