What's in it For Me?

Don't Be Discouraged! “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added to them about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41 “When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.” Acts 7:54 Peter won 3,000 to the Lord while Stephen was stoned to death. Two preachers, two results. Was Peter a tremendous success, and Stephen a lousy failure? No! Both men were faithful and obedient to their call. If we use results to measure success in evangelism, we will quickly be discouraged and ultimately give up. Rejection and negative responses are not signposts pointing to failure; they are what Jesus warned us about when He said, “Marvel not if the world hates you.” Successful soul winning is simply sharing Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, leaving the results to God. We can’t convict or save anyone. We can’t bend or shape their will. God can do all these things and more. Don’t try to do the job of the Holy Spirit. Don’t look at your soul winning adventures through natural eyes. Don’t get discouraged or quit. Be faithful and obedient to that which God has called you. As you continue to sow seeds of God’s Word into the hearts of the lost, you will reap a vast harvest of souls.
